Among the standout offerings, the Cao Lau has earned rave reviews. Described as beautifully prepared with generous portions, it is a must-try. Another beloved dish is the Bun Bo Hue, a deliciously spicy noodle soup that embodies a perfect blend of flavors—savory, spicy, and fragrant, it's a comforting choice, especially on a rainy Vancouver day.
As Sonia C. noted in her review, the Hu tieu do bien nuoc (seafood thin rice noodles in soup) strikes the balance of a clear broth that's not overly salty, paired with noodles that offer the right texture to satisfy every slurp. “ I stopped by their New Year's eve. I didn't know they would close earlier that evening but pleasantly they accepted my order half hour before their closing. There were another customers for dine in after me. Same service. That's good. To go Cao Lau were well prepared and huge. Their special noodle will stick immediately. So better to hurry up to eat. The veg looked 2 cups at least. Generous portion. ”
“ Got the Hu tieu do bien nuoc (seafood thin rice noodle in soup). This is one of my fav Vietnamese dishes and the one at Hoi A Cafe hit the spot! The broth was clear and not too salty - made me feel cozy on a typical Vancouver rainy day. Noodles were a good texture as well. The service was also good! The staff were cheerful and always checked up on us. Will come back to try their mi quant which is the dish Hoi An (the city in Vietnam) is known for ”
“ Great food especially their Cao Lau. Great service and friendly staff. Must try Vietnamese Restaurant in Vancouver! ”
“ Our go-to place for Bun Bo Hue. If we are ever craving a good bowl of Bun Bo Hue, this place never lets us down. Probably one of the more authentic places we go to. It's consistently good and we absolutely love all the steamed rice cakes. The Bun Bo Hue flavours are only slightly spicy, extremely fragrant, has a tiny salty and souch punch that I love. A lot of BBH out there is all spice but no fragrance, this is one of the few places I have been satisfied with this delicious spicy, meaty, soupy, thick rice noodle dish. Banh beo Nhan Uot is probably our favorite of all the steamed rice cakes (even though they're all good). The flavour is sweet, salty, umami, the rice cakes are chewy, fresh, and it always comes steaming hot. Service is friendly and quick. The restaurant itself has little decoration but none is needed. The seating is comfortable and I always leave happy and full. ”
“ We have driven by here many times and finally decided to try. I ordered the bun bo Huế spicy noodle soup and it did not disappoint. There were a lot of different meats included and the spiciness was perfectly flavoured. I will definitely be back for it again and will try other dishes that looked just as good. ”
“ Looking for pho for lunch along Victoria Drive. Tough to decide which one as so many Vietnamese establishments between 33rd and 41st Ave. Stopped at Hoi An Cafe as it was full of patrons. Got the last open table and ordered the large beef pho. The small is $14 and the large $15...so was an easy choice. The pho came out fairly quick with the side plate of sprouts and basil leaves. The taste and presentation was in line with other pho I have had in recent weeks. I liked the beef broth. The service was quick and efficient and the establishment was clean. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Hoi An Cafe for pho. ”
“ I visited Hoi A Cafe and tried the Hu Tieu Bo Kho for the 1st time and it did not disappointed at all. The soup based is very good and bold and the beef is balanced and tasty. I would recommend every one to try this over pho beef. ”
“ We didn't eat out for 3 years because of the pandemic but have started eating out again. This was one of our regular restaurants back in the day. They have air conditioning too which is a bonus for me (especially in the summer). The last time I was here 2 months ago, the food was only average. Thought maybe they changed hands but happy to see that the owners are still there. Prices have increased but that's pretty much every restaurant. Tried it again today and it was really good. The staff are friendly here and service was excellent. Definitely will be back again. I brought my friends here tonight and they also really enjoyed their meal too. ”
“ I was surprised to find a Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver that served authentic Mi Quang! The broth tasted like the real deal, and I was pleased to see all the usual toppings that come with the dish. I also loved the texture of the rice noodles! ”
“ What a find. Drive by Victoria Dr all the time but today I was craving for pho. Many people recommend this hood but you know better than me that there is a Vietnamese restaurant just about every block between 41st and 33rd. I,chose this one as I saw many people there. After ordering the pho, I noticed many customers ordering the steamed dumplings. So next time.... Excellent food and service. ”
